Uptown Cafe is a welcomingly unpretentious breakfast/brunch/lunch eatery in a small strip mall in north-northeast Indianapolis just off Binford Boulevard at 64th Street. A small but adequate private lot provides convenient parking right at the front door.

The dining area is one medium-sized clean and bright rectangular space with seating for about fifty customers at booths, tables, and a few counter stools. There is one muted TV behind the counter and recorded music playing quietly in the background throughout.

I was immediately greeted in a friendly manner upon entering at approximately 7:30 on a recent Thursday morning, seated, and quickly served my requested coffee. From the generous and reasonably priced menu I ordered eggs benedict, biscuits and gravy, and a side of hash browns. It was all served up in about five minutes.

My server was identified on the ticket as Miranda. She was the one person working front of house and she did so quite capably: greeting customers, taking orders, and delivering food from the kitchen. My coffee cup never got more than half empty before she was back to top it up.

The food was all excellent. The thick hollandaise sauce and equally thick gravy were both special delights.

Uptown Cafe is a place well worth seeking out.

Not too bad at all. Super cheap. In the plaza on Binford & 64th. Right next to the new Missing Brick pizza.

I was craving a Benedict so I looked up places near me and Uptown was close to me. I dropped in a grabbed the Eggs Florentine which was decent. I was not too much a fan of the hollandaise sauce, it was thick and sweet. The English muffin was homemade and bomb! It was so good. I also got some hash browns that were ok as well, I needed to add some salt and pepper. But it was $9 so I got what I paid for. Oh I did grab a cinnamon roll too and that was great! Their pastries are a win, can't go wrong there.

The inside reminds me of a current donut shop with the boat booth seats and big square tables. Very bright in the inside so you get that morning breakfast moral boost. The staff was pleasant.

Check them out for yourself :)

Tucked into a small strip mall right off Binford it's easy to skip by this place. The inside is warm and welcoming with a touch of traditional diner. The staff were absolutely friendly and seemed to really have a good relationship with their regulars.

The menu is pretty small/standard. Breakfast on one side and lunch on the other. Plenty of ways to customize your sides and get the perfect meal you are craving.

As soon as i saw they had homemade cinnamon rolls and I knew i had to have one! Luckily you can make it your side for a small charge.  I ordered the French melt, French toast sandwich with shaved ham and cheese, served with syrup.

Food came out very quick and looked amazing! The sandwich was pretty good, I wish there was a dash of cinnamon or vanilla in the batter but it was a pretty good French toast. The syrup on top made it really sweet and paired well with the salty ham. The cinnamon roll was a generous size, smothered in icing. It was so warm, the bread tasted good and the sweet gooey middle of the roll of pure heaven!

Overall a really great and fantastic little place, I do think the price point is a little higher than it should be, but it really was a good place and I look forward to another trip.

I am somewhat conflicted writing this review as it is based solely on the fact that we attempted to go to Uptown Cafe on Sunday morning. We arrived and one of the servers yelled to us across the restaurant that we could sit wherever we'd like. We chose a seat and after about 5 minutes of us sitting there without a server coming over, someone else came into the restaurant and they were immediately greeted at their table and drink orders were taken. After another 8 minutes of waiting, we decided to leave and head over to Just Judy's. I am hopeful that at some point, I will be able to try this restaurant again and update my review, but until then, unfortunately, this is where we are. I did decide to give it two stars because the menu did look very interesting...especially the breakfast bowls.

Blink and you may miss this gem of a cafe if you're driving down Binford. The menu has every possible breakfast item you may want and even 5 varieties of toast to choose from. Order the cinnamon raisin toast that comes with icing- a total new take on a cinnamon roll. They offer two types of quiche every day and the omelette options were endless. Enjoy a bottomless cup of coffee and great service with a smile. You will definitely come in hungry and leave happy at the Uptown Cafe.
